Inspiration: Children of Ruin
Another Adrian Tchaikovsky yarn, this one is a sequel to Children of Time, which I read quite a long time ago.
As with the previous book, this leans heavily on the idea of communication and how it solves all sorts of problems. There's tragedy and hope within it, although the method of dividing the book throughout into the past and the present was something that I wasn't massively keen on. However it wove together the story in a way, and revealing everything that happened in the past probably would have given some of the game away!
Still, a solid read from an author who really knows his stuff.
