Inspiration: The Batman
Whose idea was a three-hour film to reboot this franchise? My word what an effort.
I enjoyed this movie, in the whole. It was clear and differentiated from some of the other variations on this character. The beginning especially, was moody and impactful. The story itself cantered along at a pace, with twists and unexpected developments (at least some of them). It felt a lot more like a detective story than recent Batman outings, which dives back to the origins of the character.
However -
Three hours... that's long.
There were a lot of silly things that I couldn't get over. Why would they leave the cop alone with Batman? Why is it so easy to get into a club that is supposed to be so difficult to get into? And why did they feel the need to shoot people who were probably going to drown anyway (the last one might be on me, to be fair).
Solid, but not spectacular. My favourite is still The Dark Knight. Sorry.
