Time for something more... devious

Hello again!

I’m still here - this week I’ve been mostly focused on getting some competition/submissions in for poetry and short stories. I’m still waiting to hear back from a couple of places for my novel, but that’s probably a long game.

Still, you look like you need a wry smile. Here’s something that might help.

Thank you for reading The Story Box. This post is public so feel free to share it.

Only The Cat

What’s that noise

They discuss in bed

Stairs creak

She enters and sighs

Only the cat

I put out the netting to catch

The rats who spy

I keep the room secure

And still they will say

Only the cat

I pull the trap taught

The slightest trip

Will foil the attack

But still they will say

Only the cat

I charge the drill

The better to kill

Should I be discovered

Yet I bet they will say

Only the cat

The shotgun points

At the window

No mercy I’ll never be blamed I’m

Only the cat

I built the flamethrower

From a lighter and paraffin

To stop heroes getting in

Some know that I’m not

Only the cat

My collar has a button that

Starts the destruction

Of this human creation

They will discover

I’m not

Only the cat

My tail knocks the candlestick

What’s that noise

Stairs creak

I hide everything they think it’s

Only the cat
