And.... that's a series! The books in this series are notable for their focus on relationships despite the fantastic things that are going on around the characters (and within the characters).

What has also been interesting reading these together is that there is always an escalation between the books - powers go from local, to regional, to worldwide.

I did feel that the author focused sometimes on the main characters to the detriment of the others. This is an important observation for me - if you're going to introduce loads of characters, they all have to achieve something. They did in this book, but I did get the feeling it wasn't quite as good a payoff for some of them as it could be.
